Franklin D. Roosevelt State Park

Sitting just 40 miles outside of New York City, Franklin D. Roosevelt State Park is excellent for a day trip. Offering beautiful forest scenery, coupled with several summer recreational opportunities, Franklin D. Roosevelt State Park has an activity for every type of guest. A massive public pool has a capacity of up to 3,500 individuals at one time! 

This is a hugely popular attraction during the summer months, due to the accessibility and fully staffed lifeguard stations. Sorry dog owners, but canines will have to sit this particular experience out. Fishing is hugely popular in Franklin D. Roosevelt State Park thanks to Mohansic Lake, and visitors can try their hand at catching bass, perch, and sunfish among others. 

All fishing on the lake requires a New York State Freshwater Fishing License, which can be acquired at several local town halls, as well as most local sporting goods stores. Canines are welcome to accompany their owners on fishing expeditions, provided they stay restrained throughout the day. If you are more just looking to take a ride, boating is another big event here. 

Both rowboats and paddleboats are available for rental, but keep in mind that if you bring your vessel, they will need a regional boating permit before you launch. There is also boat storage offered for a small additional fee. Would be mariners are welcome to bring along their canine companions for the journey as long as they are kept on a 6-foot leash or shorter throughout their stay. 

Two regulation basketball courts regularly host impromptu pickup games, as well as hosting the Hoops for Hire summer series. Roosevelt State Park be up to date on all shots and vaccinations as well as having proper registration. Concession stands are open year-round, weather permitting.
