Description

The George Washington Birthplace National Monument encompasses a total area of about 662 acres of land that is located on the Potomac River and about 38 miles east of Fredericksburg, Virginia. This amazing national monument is accessible through VA 3 and VA 204. 

The park was established on January 23, 1930, while the memorial house was built in 1931 to represent an 18th-century tobacco plantation which was the style used to make such homes at the time. George Washington Birthplace National Monument was opened to the public in 1932 during the Great Depression. Today, the park is governed by the National Park Service.

When visitors get to the George Washington Birthplace National Monument, they will find a lot of attractions to keep their attention. First, there are several recreational activities in the park that visitors can get to enjoy. For example, guests can participate in lots of activities like fishing, hiking, ranger-guided tours, and interpretive programs. 

Some of the amenities in the George Washington Birthplace National Monument to facilitate these activities include a picnic area, visitor center, museum/exhibit, restrooms, and self-guided trails. That said, most of the guests to the George Washington Birthplace National Monument will probably be there for the parks historical and cultural importance. 

The park was the birthplace of the first U.S. President of the country George Washington in 1732. He lived in this place until the age of three before returning to live here again as a teenager. The national monument, therefore, includes a memorial mansion and gardens, as well as the tombs of his ancestral lineage including his father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Visitors to the George Washington Birthplace National Monument that have dogs are welcome to bring them, but they should be aware that there are some rules intended to protect the national monument and its resources. The basic rule is to ensure that dogs are always under the immediate control of their owner and to ensure that their pooch is always well-behaved.
