Gillson Park Dog Beach

Gillson Park Dog Beach is an off-leash area for pet owners to enjoy the water with their dog. Your dog can run around with other dogs splashing around in the water and running on the pristine white sand. It’s a great place to play fetch or take a walk on the shore with your dog by your side. This exclusive beach requires pet owners to purchase a permit that lasts for one year. The resident permit fee is $35 plus $6 for each additional dog and the non-resident fee is $196 plus $65 for each additional dog. You can purchase permits at the Park District Administrative Office in Village Hall. 

All dogs are required to have proof of current vaccinations. This includes rabies, bordetella, parainfluenza, parvovirus, hepatitis, leptospirosis, and distemper. A negative fecal test is also required. Owners need to show the proof in written form by a veterinarian office at the time of purchasing the dog beach permit. 

If your dog loves water, chances are you will spend most of your time at the dog beach area. However, dogs are also welcome to play in a spacious area adjacent to West Park. This large open area is great for dogs that love to run around off-leash in a natural environment. Owners must keep their dog on a leash until the point where they enter the off-leash dog beach or designated park area. All leashes can’t exceed 10 feet for safety reasons. Pet parents are encouraged to remove their dog from any situation that can lead to aggression towards other dogs or people. 

Pet parents need to bring along their own waste bags to clean up after their dogs. Overall, this dog beach is an excellent place to enjoy the beachside environment and splash around in the water. Your dog will get plenty of exercise and have fun playing with other dogs at this beautiful dog beach.
