Glencarlyn Park is an expansive 95.5 acre creekside park, and a true gem in Arlington, Virginia. This park is a woofderful space to enjoy a family outing, some peace in nature, or quality time with your canine companion. There is something in this family-oriented park for everyone, including an off-leash area for the doggos!
The off-leash area can be tricky to find, because it's not fenced in. After crossing a little footbridge, you'll find other puppers playing near the shallow, clear, stream. Although the park is not fenced in, it's bordered by the stream and a steep hill which keeps dogs in the valley. It's not near the streets, but be sure your pal doesn't chase a squirrel into the woods and get lost! There are nature paths, woods, and hills, that your pooch can scamper through like a wild dog before cooling off in the stream. Pet-parents love bringing their dogs here, so Fido shouldn't have any problems finding playmates!
There are plenty of ways to continue the adventure in the surrounding park. Glencarlyn Park connects to the Four Mile Run Trail, and the Washington and Old Dominion Rail Trail. Both of these trails are paved and popular among cyclists, the W&OD trail extending a whopping 45 miles. Look out for fast moving cyclists while you're walking your dog along here to avoid a collision.
Some other park amenities include two picnic shelters with pavilions available for rent and grills. The kiddos love playing on the nature themed playgrounds near the shallow creek. There are clean restrooms, and porta-potties throughout the park. Be sure to bring waste bags for your doggo, and clean drinking water for the both of you. Dogs need to stay leashed when not they're not in the off-leash area, and picked up after at all times. By abiding to these rules, the park can remain the clean, safe, haven that it is.
Glencarlyn Park is the ideal place for off-leash adventures and family time!
