Goosepond Mountain State Park

Goosepond Mountain State Park is known first and foremost for the sights. The scenery here is built for exploration, as the officials continue to deem the area too pristine for development. This means that guests are treated to an area devoid of structures, save for a lone, abandoned road that winds its way throughout the property.

Hiking is quite popular with the locals in Goosepond Mountain State Park due to to the nature of the landscape. No sanctioned trails exist, but several worn dirt paths can be found upon approaching the edges of the wooded areas. Park officials do not especially patrol this area, so make sure to bring a fully charged cell phone, drinking water, and proper attire for the season before setting off on a day's adventure. 

Dogs are quite welcome at the Goosepond Mountain State Park, as long as they remain on a sturdy leash and guests clean up any waste that they might leave behind. Camping is allowed in this park as well, albeit without any modern amenities. Guests are required to leave no trace as per New York State Wildlife regulations stipulate. 

This means that any bathroom materials must follow guests to the dumping stations located just outside the main entrance. If you have a dog coming along for the night, the same waste rules apply. Hunting is another favorite past time at Goosepond Mountain State Park, due to the open nature of the area. Favorite seasons start in the fall and end in the late winter months. 

All guests looking to hunt in Goosepond Mountain State Park or any other New York state park must have a valid license for the sport and season. Common species seen here are deer, squirrel, and turkey. Make sure that your dog remains on a leash if you decide to bring them along for a hunting expedition. Remember that when visiting any New York park with an animal, they must be up to date on all shots and vaccinations.
