Description

Gull Point State Park is a 195-acre park that is located in Dickinson County, Iowa and is close to Milford City. To gain access to the park, just drive three and a half miles north of Milford and off the IA-86. The park is located throughout the Spirit Lake area and on the West Lake Okoboji areas.

This state park has several features that make it stand out as one of the interesting parks in the area. Two of the predominant features within the park include the fact that the park serves as the headquarters for the Gull Point Complex of state parks and recreation areas, around northwestern Iowa's lakes region.

Gull Point State Park is essentially the primary state park unit in the Iowa Great Lakes region. Secondly, the park features the Gulf Point Lodge which is a unique lodge that was built in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). This lodge is the largest historic lodge in Iowa and includes plenty of space for a full kitchen and can accommodate about 140 people as well as offer space for several group activities.

Some of the activities that can be enjoyed at the park include swimming, camping, lake fishing, water-skiing, hiking, sailing, boating, wildlife viewing, and cross-country skiing. These activities are facilitated by the availability of several amenities at the park including paved roads, modern restroom and shower facilities, interpretive trail, a campground with several campsites, playground equipment, day-use lodge, swimming beach, fishing pier, and open picnic shelters.

If you have a dog, you can bring him into the park at no extra cost. If you do bring your dog, you should be aware of standard Iowa State park rules. Some of the rules that relate to dogs and dog owners include the following. Your dog should always be in a secure enclosure or on a leash that is no more than six feet in length. Secondly, you should prevent your dog from wandering purposelessly around the park. If you choose to camp at the park, you should be aware that you are only allowed a maximum of two dogs per dog-designated cabin or yurt.

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.
