The Happy Tails Dog Park is located in the town of Dunedin, Florida. There is a spacious parking lot adjacent to the dog park. The park is two and a half acres of ground which has been designated by the Dunedin local authorities as an off-leash area for exercising dogs. The entire area is enclosed with shoulder high chain-link fencing. One part, measuring half an acre, has been sectioned off for small dogs. This area is for dogs which weigh less than thirty pounds.
The off-leash area is very natural parkland with plenty of mature trees which provide good shade on sunny days. All parts of the off-leash area are surfaced with real grass with the addition of some bark chippings and fallen leaves in places. There is a small section set out with a few pieces of agility equipment.
There are dog-friendly water fountains installed in both sections of the dog park. Poop bags are provided on site. Owners are obliged to remove all fecal waste produced by their dog and deposit it in the containers provided. Dunedin authorities require all dogs using the off-leash dog park to be either spayed or neutered. They must also be fully vaccinated and have the appropriate license.Â
Handlers can not take more than three dogs into the off-leash area at any one time. Owners are required to carry a leash in their hands whilst in the dog park. Any dog with a history of aggression will not be permitted entrance and any dog displaying aggression inside the dog park must be removed immediately. There is an ample provision of benches and chairs for pet owners throughout the dog park. Pet owners using the facility should be aware it is next to a softball practice court and should be mindful of stray balls which can enter the dog park.
