Harriet Hollister Spencer State Reservation Area

In Western New York, Harriet Hollister Spencer State Recreation Area is a 1,550-acre recreation area as part of New York state parks system. It sits near Rochester in the Finger Lakes region. The park has plenty of opportunities for all kinds of outdoor fun. Harriet Hollister Spencer State Recreation Area features several miles of trails for biking and hiking, and picnic tables and a reservable pavilion.

Dogs are welcome at Harriet Hollister Spencer State Recreation Area, provided they are kept on a short leash or kept crated. You have to carry proof of a rabies vaccine. If you bring your dog to Harriet Hollister Spencer State Recreation Area, be respectful of park rules and other guests. 

Bring waste bags, pick up pet waste, and don’t bring aggressive dogs or those who may be a nuisance. Hunting is permitted at Harriet Hollister Spencer State Recreation Area, provided the applicable permits and seasons are observed. Pay attention to safety zones and restricted areas for the safety of guests and park personnel. The park doesn’t permit trapping. Harriet Hollister Spencer State Recreation Area is open year-round, but the main gate may close during the winter and early spring, between mid-November and the beginning of May.

During winter conditions, there are sixteen miles of trails for snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing. Because of the park’s elevation, it gets more snow than others nearby. All trails are groomed and maintained by the Rochester Cross Country Ski Foundation. The park is often used by cross-country skiing teams.
