The Hounds of Henry Street is a dog park in Punta Gorda, Florida. This dog park is a fenced-in area of public ground which the city of Punta Gorda has designated as a place where pet owners can exercise their dogs off-leash. The Hounds of Henry Street Park has a good sized parking lot right by the entrance.Â
Pet owners using this dog park in Punta Gorda should remember that just because the parking lot is right by the entrance that does not mean they can sit in their vehicle while their dog is in the off-leash area. They need to be with their dog all the time even if the weather is bad. This dog park in Punta Gorda is one large grass field which has been divided in two to accommodate different sizes of dogs.Â
There is a secure chain-link fence all the way around the perimeter and between the two separate sections. The dog park has wide, double gated staging areas and broad paved pathways which makes it accessible for any pet owner with a disability or mobility problem. There are separate staging areas for both the large and small dog areas.Â
Poop bag dispensers have also been conveniently placed along the sides of the pathways, so they are easily reachable by anyone in a wheelchair. Owners are well provided for and have gazebo style shelters plus benches and chairs to sit on. The Punta Gorda authorities do not permit food, including dog treats, to be taken into this off-leash area as it encourages dogs to be possessive and can provoke aggression between dogs.Â
If a dog has been well behaved and deserves a reward, treats need to be saved until pet and owner have left the Hounds of Henry Street Park. Dogs are quite spoiled in this dog park as they have not only a good supply of tennis balls at their disposal, but a couple of fire hydrants and splash pools in the summer.
