Going on a road trip with your furry travel buddy? Be sure to pull into a rest stop every so often to let your doggo stretch their legs and go to the bathroom. Furtunately, I-35 in Oklahoma offers several places for two- and four-legged travelers to take a break, including the Blackwell Rest Area Northbound!
If you and Fido are driving along the northbound side of the highway, you will find this rest stop at mile marker 225, just 10 miles south of the Oklahoma/Kansas border. This site offers parking and a designated pet area where your pooch can walk around and do their business. Shade is limited here, so check the ground before letting your pup out of the car, and cut your visit short if necessary to avoid hot paws. Be sure to always keep your doggo on a leash and clean up after them, so have clean-up bags handy. Also, don't furget to give your pup some water before you get back on the road.
Restrooms for people are available, as are picnic tables, and vending machines for snacks. For those who need a connection, this rest stop also has Wi-Fi.
If you're not in a hurry and don't mind taking a detour, head to the opposite side of the highway to find more amenities, including an off-leash dog park! Comprising two enclosures and a grassy surface, this fenced dog run is the pawfect spot to let dogs who have been sitting in the car for too long run off all their pent-up energy. There is also a welcome center on the southbound side where you can pick up helpful brochures to guide you on your journey.
Whether you take a quick break at the Blackwell Rest Area Northbound or detour to let your pup play at the dog park, you and Fido will feel re-energized and ready to continue on your adventure!
