Lake Thuderbird State Park

Lake Thunderbird State Park in Norman, Oklahoma, is a beloved state treasure. For families seeking a fun retreat prominently featuring recreational water activities, there is no more perfect spot. In addition to the boating opportunities available at this park are many leisure opportunities including swimming at two separate beach locations.

For those seeking lengthier stays within the park, Lake Thunderbird State Park offers many different accommodations to choose from. Visitors may opt for one of the park's rustic style campsites for an old school wilderness experience or aim for more deluxe living space by selecting one of the campground's over 200 RV spots. Each campsite has full access to bathrooms, playgrounds, picnic areas with seating, and archery facilities. For larger family gatherings, picnic shelters are also available, but these are accessible by reservation only. There is also an on-site restaurant. 

Located in nearby Clear Bay are the Lake Thunderbird State Park Calypso Nature Center and trails designated for horseback riding. Other amenities on site include hiking trails and mountain biking. Other seasonal activities are also offered. 

Access to the park is $5 per vehicle. Camping facilities must be reserved ahead of time and are also fee-based. Dogs are permitted in this public park at no additional charge. It is expected that dogs remain quiet and well-behaved at all times. During their visit to the facility, dogs are to remain on a lead or crated if they cannot be supervised. Upon entrance to the park, owners must show proof of up-to date vaccinations for their dog.

It is unknown if drinking water or poop bags are provided on the premises. However, park officials mandate that all owners pick up and promptly dispose of all canine waste materials.
