Road trips with your canine BFF are always fun, and pawsome rest stops make them even better! If you and Fido find yourselves driving down I-35 in Oklahoma, be sure to swing by the Blackwell Tourism Information Center! Located 10 miles south of the Oklahoma/Kansas border, this rest area offers several furrific amenities, including a fenced dog run that will make four-legged travelers' tails wag!
The Blackwell Tourism Information Center Dog Park is the pawfect spot to let your pupper take a break and stretch their legs sans leash after a long drive. Serving southbound doggos, it features a grassy surface, two separate enclosures, and lots of space for Fido to burn off all that pent-up energy! Each enclosure is secured by a tall chain-link fence and double gates, so you can rest easy on one of the covered benches as your furry pal sniffs and romps to their heart's content. Should your pooch make a mess, simply grab a mutt mitt from a dispenser and drop it in one of the trash bins provided. Note that there is no shade in the dog run and visitors say that the drinking fountain outside by the entrance is sometimes turned off, so be sure to have your own water on hand.Â
Before you and your canine companion hit the road again, don't furget to take an obligatory tourist photo in front of the Oklahoma sign. Stop in the welcome center to get a cup of hot coffee and pick up some guides and brochures, all of which are available for free. If you need directions and assistance in planning your trip around Oklahoma, professional travel counselors are ready to lend you a hand. The welcome center is open daily from 8:30 AM to 5 PM, except on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.Â
More than just a pit stop, the Blackwell Tourism Information Center Dog Park will surely be one of the highlights of Fido's trip!
