Traveling on the open road with a canine companion can be an absolute delight. It’s even better when you know where the dog friendly rest stops can be found. If you and your pooch are heading eastbound on I-40 through Oklahoma, there’s a furrific pit stop at Mile Marker 316. So pull off the freeway and let your pup check it out!
No doubt after a few hours in the car, your pup will be
ready for a bathroom break. Clip on their leash and head over to the designated
doggy area. After they take care of business, take a walk around the spacious
grounds. Your pooch will love the chance to sniff around the open lawn area and
bark (or mark) up a tree or two. The lovely pawperty is well kept and gives you
just enough room to walk your pup. Tall trees provide shade in the summer and a
lovely display of colored leaves in the fall. Make sure you have a clean up bag
on hand and ready to go. There’s a water spigot where you can fill up your pup’s
water dish. Just don’t them drink too much, or you’ll be stopping again in no
time!
Pet parents will find a medium sized building with
restrooms and infurmation about the local area. Please
note that pupsters are not allowed inside the building, so while you go in, your
pal needs to stay behind with another member of your pawrty. This rest stop
also has unique picnic shelters. There are no vending machines onsite. Since there are several trash
cans available, you can empty your car of any wrappers or garbage you've accumulated
along the way.
Make no mistake, a stop at this rest stop will make your
pooch one happy hound!
