To address the needs of small, shy, and senior dogs, one of the play spaces has been reserved for their use exclusively. Since providing a safe space for off-leash activity forms part of the mandate of this dog park, owners are required to actively supervise their dogs as well as to keep a leash with them in case it is needed.
Dogs must be leashed when entering and leaving the enclosures as well as in all public areas. James L. Holland Memorial Dog Park proudly offers access to their dog playground at no cost to the public. The dog runs encompass 1.5 acres of property that is lined with grass, a great substance to provide traction for dogs at play. Also found in the play areas is drinking water to help keep dogs cool and refreshed during their play time.
Benches are also installed throughout the playgrounds to ensure owners have a place to rest and enjoy watching their dogs having fun. Visitors to this park space do make note of two items. The small dog run has very limited shade, and many remark that their dogs were becoming overheated on particularly warm days. In addition to this, there is a pond located in the large dog area where many dogs will often take a dip.
The pond is not maintained by park staff, and some owners have noticed a foul smell in their dog's coat that is resistant to being washed out even after repeated baths. It is not known if poop bags are available on the grounds. With this in mind, owners should come prepared with some from home since all pet waste removal is their responsibility. The family-friendly James L. Holland Memorial Park has bathrooms on the premises available for public use.
This park closely follows Florida state law by requiring that all dogs visiting their playground be current on vaccinations and licensed with their city. Dog tags showing evidence of both must be clearly visible on each dog's collar. Looking for a new place to take Fido and the whole family? Why not plan a trip to James L. Holland Memorial Dog Park?
