Looking for a spot in Saint Charles where your pupper can stretch their legs? Check out the James O. Breen Community Park! Formerly known as the West Side Community Park and Campton Hills Park, this 350-acre green space is home to a furrific, off-leash dog park where the city's canine residents and visitors can run and play to their heart's content!
You and Fido will find the 2.5-acre dog park tucked behind the aquatic center and athletic fields. The fenced-in, double-gated area is divided into three sections: the first one is for small pups, the second is for dogs that are shy or in training, and the third is where pooches of all sizes can mingle. If you'd like to test Fido's agility, there's an obstacle course in the second enclosure. Other amenities include a doggie water fountain, activity stations, and picnic tables for the humans. It is unknown if mutt mitts are provided, so be sure to bring your own! Leave the snacks and treats in the car, though, as these are not allowed in the leash-free area.
All pooches using the dog park must be current on all vaccinations and wear their rabies tag at all times. Only two canine companions per person are allowed, and dog parents are expected to immediately clean up after and fill any holes dug by their furry charges. If you and your pup are visiting during the winter months, use the northeast gate to enter as the west gate will be locked.
While the dog park offers plenty of room for Saint Charles' four-legged community to romp, visitors say that it gets busy at times. If your doggo is not in the mood to rub shoulders with their fellow canines, take them for a leashed stroll outside the off-leash area instead; there are nature and paved trails throughout the park.
For a fun afternoon with your furry buddy, head to the James O. Breen Community Dog Park!
