Ask any Houston doggo what off leash area they absolutely love to visit and the answer will always be the same- the Johnny Steele Dog Park! Located inside Buffalo Bayou Park, this dog park was recently flooded by Hurricane Harvey. Furtunately, it has been fully renovated and is now open for canine business!
When your pup arrives at Johnny Steele Dog Park, they can
check their leash at the gate and run amuck. This place has two acres
designated for furry park patrons. Small pups have their own entrance to the
park, as well as their own grassy play area. Large dogs can scamper around the
mulched lawn on their side of the fence. No matter what size your pooch is, they will love sniffing around on their own or mixing and mingling with new playmates.
Dogs who have been coming to this park for years may
remember that there used to be separate ponds for big and little dogs. After rennovations, there is now one large pond where pups of all shapes and sizes can paddle around
together. Your four legged buddy will have a blast splashing around and cooling
off. It’s a pawfect spot to find relief from the blazing hot temperatures of
Houston summers. A retaining wall around the pond let’s pet parents sit and
keep an eye on their furry swimmer.
Before your pal gets back into your car, stop by the
doggy wash station and give them a quick rinse. Johnny Steele Dog Park has shade areas and
some seating for people who want to relax while their fur baby is getting
tuckered out. Drinking fountains are available for both people and pets. Per
park rules, people must use the clean up bags to promptly pick up after their
pup.
A trip to this dog park will make your pooch doggone
happy!
