Joseph Davis State Park is nestled on the banks of the Niagara River and is just a few miles south of Lake Ontario. If your pup is in the mood for a lazy afternoon stroll in nature, this park is the pawfect destination. So clip on your pup’s leash and head over for some fun in the sun!
The park has a small system of trails that gives you and
your pal the opportunity to explore the lovely scenery. Let your pooch be the
guide as you meander through the fields and wetlands. Two small ponds, groves
of trees, and large rocks add to the park’s beauty. Your doggo probably won’t
work up a sweat, but they’ll love being out in nature. As you’re out and about,
keep your eyes open for turtles, frogs, squirrels, and chipmunks. Please note
pups are not allowed on the boardwalk.
Since it has a couple ponds and it sits on the river,
Joseph Davis State Park is prime bird habitat. In fact, there is even a Bird
Conservation Area inside the park. Migratory song birds pass through the park
during the spring and fall. Bird watchers will love the variety of feathered
friends this park houses. Watch for Northern Harrier, Horned Lark, Savannah
Sparrow, Eastern Meadowlark, and much more. If your pup is tempted to chase
birds, it might be a good idea to avoid this area of the park.
The park also features a 27 hole Frisbee disc golf course,
a playground, fishing, and a hunting area. Picnic tables and pavilions are
available, so pack a sandwich and stay for lunch. Don’t forget to bring a little
something for your pooch! Also, carry some clean up bags and keep the park
smelling fresh by picking up whatever your pup puts down. This park will definitely
make your pooch one happy hound!
