Little Manatee River State Park

If your dog is a nature lover, then a trip to Little Manatee River State Park is a must. This puptacular park is comprised of a variety of ecosystems and features the Little Manatee River. Your furry friend will be in heaven as they explore this beautiful parcel of land.

The park is home to one of Southwest Florida’s most pawsome and interesting trails. The Little Manatee River Trail is a gorgeous loop in the northern end of the park that cuts through such a variety of terrain your pup might forget where they are! The trail serpentines through a swamp then suddenly enters a thick upland forest. As you continue your trek, you pass through a bog, woodlands, a floodplain, sandy bluffs, and a meadow. Mother Nature is woofin’ impressive! If you are short on time or energy, the trail can be made into a three mile loop. If your pal wants to do the entire trail, plan on 6.5 mile hike.

Besides this puptastic hike, there is also the one mile Oxbow Nature Trail in the northern part of the park. The southern portion has 15 more miles of furrific hiking trails. They are multi-use, so expect to see equestrians and cyclists. Don’t forget to pack plenty of water for you and your pooch.  

If you want to stay the night in the park, you have some options. The campground has 30 sites that are suitable for both tents and RVs. If you are bringing along your trusty horse, stay in one of the equestrian sites. For a more primitive experience, backpack 2.5 miles down the Florida Hiking Trail and set up camp. The campground does have some clean up bags, but bring some from home, just to be safe.
