If you need to drive to the park, plenty of free parking can be found at the north end of the park next to the playgrounds, accessible from East 32nd Avenue. After unloading your pups from the car, your adventure begins!Â
Probably your doggo's favorite park of this park will be exploring the nature trails with their beloved human. The nature trail follows the shore of Gerritsen Beach, and empties into Jamaica Bay. From here it winds through tall grass. Maps and more information is available at the Salt Marsh Nature Center. Bring your binoculars, because this area is great for viewing birds, turtles, fish, and more. Please be sure your curious canine doesn't harass the wildlife. You'll find plenty of lookouts along your travels, with great views of White Island, grasslands, tidal wetlands, and mudflats. It's enough to make you forget you're anywhere near the skyscrapers of NYC.Â
The rest of this family oriented park features a seemingly endless amount of recreational activities. These include a wide variety of athletic fields, multiple playgrounds, and bicycle greenways. At Gerritsen Inlet you can find a canoe and kayak launch and rentals, so don't forget the doggy life-jacket! If you just came to kick back and relax, there are benches, fresh air and greenery throughout the whole park.Â
Doggos are allowed to join their humans here, as long as they stay leashed and picked up after at all times. There are trash receptacles available, but you'll need to bring the doggy waste bags.Â
Marine Park gets visitors raving and tails wagging every time!Â
