Market Square Park is a lively and vibrant park located in downtown Houston. It's reminiscent of another era where locals like to catch up with the neighbors in the square. Dogs can enjoy this kind of pawsitive socialization here as well, in their very own dog runs! The dog runs are dedicated to the memory of Holly Anawaty, a dog-lover who was supported by her two canine best friends as she fought the battle with brain cancer.Â
Since this park is located right in the middle of the downtown area, finding parking can be tricky. You'll need to search for metered, on-street parking, which is free after 6 pm and on Sundays. If possible, why not walk to the park? The extra fresh air and exercise will do you and your doggo some good.Â
Once you arrive, you can unhook Fido's leash and let him run loose in the fenced off area. There are two separate areas, one for large dogs and another for the little guys. Within the dog runs, there are water features, which can be used for rinsing off your dogs, or for them to take a drink. The surface is made up of natural dirt, large rocks to climb on, and paved sections. There are shade trees and benches where the humans can kick back, relax, and be entertained. Waste bags are included here too, so be sure to make use of them and pick up after your pupper! The dog park is a pawpular place, so there is a 45 minute time limit for each dog.Â
Your pal is welcome to join you in the surrounding Market Square Park as well, as long as they stay leashed and on good behavior. This park is a hub of excitement, and hosts a variety of events throughout the year. You may even be able to catch a free concert!Â
Market Square Park Dog Runs are sure to get your pup's tail wagging!Â
