Description

Tucked away in the southwestern edge of the Ouachita Mountain Range, McGee Creek State Park provides gets with several recreational opportunities, including fishing, hunting, and hiking among others. At 2,600 acres there's enough land here to sustain several different habitats, which means McGee Creek State Park is a prime spot to do some nature spotting.

Fishing here is done on the McGee Creek Reservoir, a 3350-acre trophy lake that hosts several species of bass, catfish, and crappie. Guests are welcome to fish from the comfort of their watercraft or enjoy any of the three concrete piers that sit at the northern and southern edges, respectfully. Fishing in Oklahoma requires a state license, so make sure you come prepared before dropping your line in the water.

If you're bringing your doggo along, make sure they're on a leash during their stay. The 64 miles of shoreline means the reservoir in McGee Creek State Park is also perfect for beach activities. Swimming is encouraged here throughout the summer months, although guests should keep in mind that lifeguards and safety staff are notably absent so do so at your own risk.

Dogs are allowed on the shore as long as they're kept on a leash, and owners clean up any debris they might leave behind. For guests looking to hike, there are a total of 34 miles of trails here that cater to both backpackers and equestrians. These are generally scenic trails and aren't particularly challenging, as long as you've got a sturdy pair of shoes. Dogs are welcome on these paths provided you keep them leashed up throughout your stay.

Doggie stations exist at several trailheads, so make sure to pick up any debris your doggo might leave behind. McGee Creek State Park also has camping opportunities, with eight custom huts available to rent just outside of the Potapo Campground. These come with bunk beds, grilling stations, a fireplace, and air conditioning which means you'll be far from roughing it. If your dog wants to come along, you'll need to have all necessary registration and vaccination information for check-in.

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.
