The park has benches for the owners to sit and watch their pups play. There are also bag dispensers to remind you to be a good visitor and pick up after your pup. Garbage cans are at the gates for easy disposal on your way out. While the field is your dog's bathroom, there is not one for the humans.Â
The park requires your dog be spayed/neutered, up-to-date on vaccines, and non-aggressive. Also, it is only two dogs to one human, no children under 12 are permitted in the off-leash area, and owners must be 18 or older. You also cannot smoke, eat, or drink in the park and leave Fido's favorite toys and balls at home.
This popular park requires a Pooch Pass, which you can get from the Town of Brookhaven. The pass is for New York State residents only and will cost $45 if a NYS resident, but $25 if Town of Brookhaven resident. The Pooch Pass is valid from May 1-April 31 and will get you into other Town of Brookhaven dog parks too, however, non-New Yorkers cannot get a Pooch Pass.Â
The Middle Island Dog Park is located near the old Kmart entrance and is just off Middle Country Rd (Route 25). The park is marked with green and white signs and has a parking lot for approximately 20 cars.
