If your pooch needs a break from the hustle and bustle of life, treat them to a day or two in Minnesota Valley Recreational Area. Nestled on the banks of the Minnesota River, this park is of great geological and historical significance. What’s even better is that it’s an ideal outdoor recreation spot for your and your pup.
If your furry friend loves hiking, they are in luck. This place has nearly 50 miles of pupperific trails. Perhaps the most pupular trail in the park is the Minnesota Valley State Trail. It parallels the river and gives your pooch plenty of miles to strut their stuff. If they want to wander off the beaten path, there are miles of side trails that weave throughout the prairies and wetlands. Please be aware that the river sometimes floods the trails. Before visiting the park, check with the Department of Natural Resources for trail conditions.
Your pup won’t be the only critter in the park. While
hiking near the river, keep your eyes open for raccoon, mink, muskrat, and
beaver. If you wander higher into the uplands, you may see white tail deer,
rabbits, squirrels, or fox. If you do happen to run into a wild creature, make
sure your dog minds their manners and doesn’t chase or bark at them.
Both camping and day use facilities are available in the
park. So whether your four legged sidekick wants to stay for the afternoon or
for a couple nights, you’ll have everything you need for a pawsome visit. Be
sure to bring water, and carry some clean-up bags and pick up after your furry friend. Also,
this is prime tick habitat, so after your hike it’s a good idea to give your
dog a once over.Â
For a furrific day of fun in the sun, pack up your pooch
and head over to Minnesota Valley Recreational Area!
