If your pooch is due for a weekend getaway, pack some sleeping bags and head over to Moreau Lake State Park. This 920-acre park is nestled in a hardwood forest and is the pawfect destination for a nature retreat. Your doggo will love hanging out amid the puptacular scenery of the lake, pine stands, and several rain-worn rocky ridges.
During the summer two legged visitors flock to the park for horseback riding, boating, fishing, swimming, and camping. While these all sound fun, your pup will be more interested in hitting the trails. There are over a dozen to choose from and they range from under a mile to 5.93 miles, so you’re sure to find one that best suits your pup’s energy level.  Some of the trails wander through the area close to the lake while others venture off into the surrounding wilderness.
Overnight guests can choose from several options inside of Moreau Lake State Park's wooded campgrounds. For a traditional camping experience, there are 72 tent sites available, all of which contain water and electrical connections. There are also 25 camper and RV sites. If your pup doesn’t want to ruff it, consider reserving one of the pet friendly cabins. Showers are available for campers, so you can stay smelling fresh during your visit.
Day visitors can use the picnic pavilions and restrooms. While the park is open year round, the beach is only open for swimming from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Unfurtunately, dogs are not allowed in swimming areas.  If you plan on going to the beach, you will need to leave your pup with another member of your pawrty. Wintertime guests can enjoy ice fishing, snow shoeing, and ice skating. Please note vehicle entrance fees are $8.00 during the peak summer months. A trip to Moreau Lake State Park will reinvigorate your pup’s spirit and leave their tail wagging!
