Description

It does rain a lot in Seattle, but the city is known for a few other things. One is coffee. Starbucks coffee started in Seattle and it's easy to find coffee on nearly every corner of the city. Coffee and the gloomy Seattle weather are a natural match. Another thing that comes to mind would be the grunge bands of the early 1990s, with bands like Pearl Jam and Nirvana. And you can't think of Seattle without thinking of the Seattle Space Needle, a remnant of the 1962 World's Fair. And, of course, it's difficult to talk about Seattle without mentioning Microsoft or Amazon.

What's great about Seattle are the people, who love the outdoors, and who never let the weather stop them or even slow them down. After all, if you let rain stop you in Seattle, you will never go outside. Nothing stops for the rain in Seattle, it's simply a fact of life that everyone factors for. A good example would be North Acres Dog Park.

To that end, one of the best dog parks in Seattle is in North Acres Park. The off-leash area is two acres of forest hiking. There are some very big trees for you and your dog to enjoy. Because it's wet much of the year, the hiking trail is covered in cedar chips, which helps prevent mud and provides traction. The trails are very well-maintained with a near religious fervor by local volunteers. The park is actually quite pretty, due to their efforts.

The North Acres Off-Leash Dog Park is quite wooded, so it's not necessarily a good place to go if you are expecting to play Frisbee with your dog. But it can be a good place to teach your dog how to heel and, given how well the park is fenced, it's also a great place to take a dog that is a little sketchy on coming when called.

This park packs a lot in a relatively small area. There are a number of benches, a fair amount of water fountains, and plenty of poop bags and trash cans. Just outside the off-leash area is a dog cleaning station, where you can get the mud off your puppy before heading home. As an added bonus, there is often an espresso cart where you can get a hot cup of coffee for the drive.
