Located in the western region of Iowa is the Oldham Recreation Area. Just a mile from Soldier, this 13- acre recreation spot is pawfect for any adventurer, human or canine, who is looking for a stroll through nature with lakeside activities.
This furbulous park offers lots of amenities! The 12-acre lake is pupular with water lovers, and offers a rock boat ramp for the boaters, just be sure to bring a life jacket for your pup! There is beach access, but unfurtunately, dogs are not allowed in any beach areas. On the shoreline not designated as a beach area, you can relax and cast a line with your pup. Fish in this gorgeous lake include bluegill, black crappie, largemouth bass and channel catfish. Have a picnic at the open shelter house, picnic tables, or picnic areas, some with grills for some outdoor cooking. A playground is also on site for the little two-leggeds in your pack.
If camping is your thing, you'll find dog-friendly campsites that are sure to please! Basic sites are $12.00 per night, while sites with electrical hook-ups are $16.00. Sites are on a first come, first serve basis, so get there early to get the pawfect spot!
Vault toilets are on site for the humans, but be sure to bring clean-up bags for pup, and always stoop and scoop wherever you go in this puptastic area. Be sure to have drinking water to share too! Dogs need to stay leashed at all times on a lead no longer than six feet. They should also be current on all their vaccinations, and have a license tag on their collars.
For a nature getaway, the Oldham Recreation Area is a furbulous place to explore with furry bestie by your side.
