Just a short drive outside of the states of New York and New Jersey is Oquaga Creek State Park. This is a forested region that provides overnight amenities, sports facilities, and cross-country skiing among its diverse lineup of recreational opportunities.
Overnight guests can choose from a few different options offered here, including campsites, cabins, and a group lodge. The standard campground includes 90 total sites, all of which come with electric and water hookups, a fire pit, and a concrete parking pad.Â
There's also the "Full-Service Accommodations" which are cottages designed to provide guests with a hassle-free experience, including things like a full kitchen, cooking utensils, dishes, and bedding. Lastly, there's the two-story Oquaga Cottage, which was redecorated in 2015.Â
It has a full fireplace, queen bed, guest room with three double beds, full heat and air conditioning, and a gas grill. Reservations for all of the sites above can be made through the New York State Parks' website, or on-site at Oquaga Creek State Park's central offices.Â
Canines are allowed to accompany guests on the traditional campsites but are only allowed in the cottages with an additional deposit. If you'd like to get out for a swim, Oquaga Creek State Park offers guests use of the 55-acre Arctic Lake. This area contains a sandy beach with roped off areas for guests to enjoy, although security staff is absent here, so guests swim at their own risks.Â
Canines can enjoy the shore but aren't allowed in the public swimming areas. Fishing is also welcome on the lake, provided guests bring their own equipment. Species seen here are black bass, bullheads, and rainbow trout. No license is required to fish on Arctic Lake.
Guests should keep in mind that Oquaga Creek State Park has zero cellular services or WIFI. For guests who find they need to get in touch with someone while on park grounds, they can always swing by the central offices to use the complimentary internet cafe.
