The Paws Park can be found in the Wingate Park in the town of Jacksonville Beach, Florida. There is a vehicle parking lot right next to the dog park entrance. Pet owners should be aware this is a facility which requires the purchase of an annual membership from the local authorities before being able to exercise a dog there. On acceptance of the application, members are issued with a gate pass and tag for their dog.Â
The annual fee to use the large dog section is $80 and for the small dog section, the fee is $50. There is a discounted cost of $25 plus taxes for any second or third dog a handler may have. Owners are required to present certificated proof of their dogs' vaccinations, neutering and must sign a legal waiver when presenting their application.
The off-leash areas of the Paws Park are fully enclosed with chain link fencing and have secure, double gated staging areas. There is a pond with fountains in the center of the dog park, but it is fenced in and dogs are not permitted entry into the water. Both sections of the off-leash area are surfaced with patchy grass and dirt as well as bark chippings.Â
There are paved pathways running through both the large and small dog areas. The off-leash areas are bordered with dense trees, but there are very few inside the perimeter fence. Several gazebos with benches have been erected to give shade to pet owners. Dog-friendly water fountains have been installed.
Owners using the dog park should be aware that it is not permitted to keep a dog on his leash in the off-leash area. Any dog displaying anti-social or dominant behavior should be distracted and moved to a different part of the off-leash area. All owners are fully responsible for cleaning up after their dog. It is recommended to carry a good supply of poop bags and deposit used ones in the on-site containers.
