The Pekin Dog Training Area is an open field dedicated to dog training. Pet parents need to keep their dog on a leash until otherwise instructed by a professional dog trainer. The spacious area provides plenty of room for dogs to learn various training. Canine obedience training is available for dogs ages 8 weeks and older. Training involves basic obedience commands plus health, grooming, and nutrition information. All dogs need to have their current vaccination records to participate in training classes.Â
After training class is over you can bring your dog to the dog park area that is located adjacent to the training area. It’s enclosed and has separate areas for small and large dogs. The dog park has water stations that include a community bowl and a spout to fill private water bowls. Trees are located around the enclosed dog park area and provide shade on hot weather days. The dog park was specifically designed for dogs to run around off-leash. The park doesn’t have benches but pet parents are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs for comfort.Â
Dog trainers instructing the session will alert pet parents ahead of time if toys or special leashes are required for training purposes. However, you can bring toys and treats along for playtime at the enclosed dog park area. Pet parents are asked to avoid bringing any toy or object their dog will feel territorial if another dog attempts to join the fun.Â
The Pekin Park District has placed stations near the park that are supplied with convenient waste bags and trash cans. A clean park for all dogs and owners to enjoy is a priority at this dog park. Immediate removal of dogs that are territorial or aggressive is mandatory to avoid fighting. The Pekin Dog training area and the separately enclosed park is great for dogs of all ages and sizes.Â
