Prairie Pastures Dog Park

Prairie Pastures Dog Park is an unusually dedicated dog facility located on the grounds of an abandoned zoo in Clinton, Iowa. This 8-acre property is a doggy play haven reserved for off-leash play. The original structures from the old zoo remain on the premises, leaving behind many different fully fenced enclosures for dogs to enjoy. This affords the opportunity for a pen reserved for small dog use as well as one primarily for seniors. In addition to this, the land itself is rugged and varied. The property even houses a small pond suitable for swimming. Though the property itself is a designated off-leash zone, owners are asked to carry a leash at all times in case of an emergency. 

Though membership is not required to access this public dog space, it is encouraged as a means to help support the park staff's initiative to maintain and improve the facility. For $50 a year, visitors can obtain a one-year membership. However, entrance to the park is fee-based. Park officials require $3 for the first dog and $1 for each subsequent dog.

It is not known if bathrooms are available on the premises for public use. Drinking water is accessible on the property to help keep Fido well-hydrated during his visit to this park space. Also not know is if poop bags are provided on-site. Owners are required to bring their own to pick up and properly dispose of all canine waste in a prompt fashion.

Though no official rules govern the use of this doggy play haven, it is highly recommended that all dogs be current on vaccinations. In addition to this, it is advisable that all dogs bear the appropriate required state license tags on their collars.
