The Rebecca Weitsman Memorial Dog Park is an off-leash dog park in Owego, New York. This dog park is an area of the city's Hickories Park which serves the community and their canines as a place for getting some leash-free exercise. The upkeep of the facility is under the control of a non-profit organization called the Owego Dog Owners Group or ODOG for short.Â
Pet parents wishing to become a member of ODOG can pay an annual membership fee of $10, but membership is not required to use the dog park. This dog park in Owego is a spacious two and a half acres of Hickories Park which has been reconditioned to provide three safe enclosures for pups to play in.Â
Mini mutts under twenty-five pounds have been designated a half acre, big breeds have almost two acres to themselves, and all share a quarter of an acre which has been fitted with agility equipment. Toy-sized pups are also allowed in the big dog section just so long as they can handle the action.Â
The dog park has been well kitted out with ten poop bag dispensers which are refilled on a regular basis by the voluntary ODOG crew members who assist with maintenance. No excuse for leaving a pup poop unattended here. Used bags can be disposed of in the containers which are positioned by the entrance/exit gates.Â
All handlers taking their fur friend to this dog park must be aged eighteen or over. No-one can take more than two dogs, and they must be appropriately supervised all the time. All puppy play must remain within the recognized social boundaries.Â
Any play deemed to be too rough should be stopped, the dog put back on its leash and taken out of the park. The ODOG has provided a great environment for pups to have some off-leash time in. Pet parents are expected to respect that and make sure their dog doesn't spoil another's fun.
