Riverwalk Linear Park

Fort Lauderdale is a beautiful city built along the Tarpon River, which runs out into the Atlantic Ocean. Recently, the City of Fort Lauderdale installed a park along the river, and dogs are allowed to walk along the waterfront with their owners. Many have enjoyed walking the 18-acre park with their dogs, utilizing the many park amenities while enjoying a day on the river. 

Most of the park is built alongside shopping centers, boutiques, and historical buildings. If you are looking for a way to take your dog on a walk and also explore Fort Lauderdale’s riverside attractions, this would be the perfect way to do so. There are plenty of benches underneath palm trees as you walk so that you can rest at any point along your stroll. 

There are picnic areas and several gazebos in case you want to pack lunch or carry lunch out from any one of the local restaurants. Plenty of restrooms are dotted along the walkway, and there is drinking water available, although you still may want to carry a water bottle around just in case. Riverwalk Linear Park is managed by the City of Fort Lauderdale, and it is free for all to use, all day, every day. 

Although the park is listed as an off-leash dog area, the rules posted on-site make it explicitly clear that dogs are to be kept on a leash at all times. Still, you and your dog can enjoy a walk or an outdoor café along the path. Posted rules also make it clear that you are expected to have your own poop bags on hand at all times, and you will need to pick up after your dog at the risk of being fined for failing to do so. 

The Riverwalk Linear Park is especially popular among runners and joggers, so you will want to be prepared to encounter a lot of people if you visit! Because of this, you need to make sure your fur buddy is sociable and well-mannered before you visit.
