The Sellwood Riverfront Park Off-Leash Dog Area is located just north of the parking lot on the west side of the property. The fact that there is a parking lot nearby makes it very convenient for dog owners with cars to the drive to the park with their favorite four-legged pets. 

One of the area’s best asset is its proximity to the river. Pet parents can swim with their dogs on a hot day. The water happens to be a favorite spot of dogs, and plenty of pet parents bring their furbabies there to play in the water. Dog owners must remember to bring water for their pets, as well as dog scooper bags are these things are not available. The grassy area is pleasant, but dogs run the show on the shoreline. 

They sprint the beach, gamely fetch tennis balls in the river and drench just about every human who comes with the stretch of sand. Suffice it to say that it is their territory. As great as the place seems, there is no separation for large and small dogs so pet parents must be on the lookout to ensure their little pooches do not get injured by the bigger ones. There is also no restroom in the park itself so having to go to the toilet can be a problem. Weekends are the busiest times at the Sellwood Riverfront Park Off-Leash Dog Area so if you want to avoid the crowd, go on a weekday.
