Description
Staunton River Battlefield State Park is a national treasure of historical significance. Situated on over 300 acres of property in Randolph, Virginia, this beautiful recreational area rests atop a Civil War battlefield. Today, battle re-enactments occur on the property, and several on-premise visitor centers pay homage to the freedoms earned through battles once fought on the very grounds of this park property in years gone by.

Staunton River Battlefield State Park is a pet-friendly facility, and dogs are welcome to join their owners in all outside areas of the park. In accordance with Virginia state law, dogs must remain on a lead at all times, and they are not permitted access to any public buildings. There is no designated dog play space at this park, and as such, no on-site amenities are provided.

Owners should take care to bring water and poop bags with them to their park. All responsibility for pet waste removal must be assumed by each owner. Staunton River Battlefield State Park is a public recreational area. Though there is no charge to enjoy the grounds, a parking fee is required. It is unknown what the cost of parking may be.

It is also not known if bathrooms are housed on the grounds for public use though it is likely. Staunton River Battlefield State Park offers many hiking trails for families to enjoy with their dogs. There is a 1.2-mile trail which meanders through a historic battlefield as well as a nature trail which is comprised of 0.75 miles of property and offers two observation towers from which families can observe wildlife in its natural habitat.

The two nature centers offer a glimpse into many facets of American history and local natural resources including Civil War memorabilia, Native American archaeological finds, and an overview of the local ecology and wildlife. There are no camping facilities available on the grounds. However, nearby Staunton River State Park offers campsite and cabins for rent by reservation only.

Fees are applicable. Staunton River Battlefield State Park carefully observes all Virginia state law. As such, dogs are required to be current on all vaccinations, and a city dog license is mandatory. Looking to enjoy a day of leisure at a great historic site?
