Lookout Park is a component of the larger Summerland Beach, located in Santa Barbara, CA. Lookout Park is a hugely popularly recreational area for both locals and tourists, giving visitors incredible views and tons of activities to enjoy. Lookout Park runs almost the full length of the shoreline, providing a diverse area for your canine to romp around in. While not the largest park, the beach's three acres of land are more than enough for your canine companion to enjoy.
Lookout Park began its life being funded by the Santa Barbara Canine Society, but in recent years that has been expanded to include public funding via local outreach programs. Because of the continued popularity of the dog beach, recent renovations have dramatically improved the park's offerings. All the dog walking trails within the 3-acre area are now paved and contain what they refer to as "doggie doo" stations, containing bags for refuse and garbage cans. The picnic pavilions have been upgraded as well, with individual bathrooms and watering areas now built into each site.
This park offers something a lot of other beachfront parks don't, and that's a set of dog-specific showers. These units are $4 per use and are large enough to house just about any size canine they may encounter. Shampoos and towels are available at the front gate offices. Dogs are permitted to be off-leash throughout the entirety of this beachfront attraction, which makes it highly attractive to pet owners. Local officials ask that visitor not take advantage of these dog-friendly policies, and always make sure to take care of any refuse left on the sand.
This park is open sunrise to sunset and is closed on Mondays for general maintenance and upkeep. Every first Thursday of the month, the local shelter hosts "adopt-a-thons" where they bring shelter animals onsite. This is both for the shelter animals to get a change of scenery, and for potential owners to see these dogs in a more natural environment.
