Fall in love with Taughannock Falls State Park in Trumansburg, New York. Located near the Fingerlakes Region, this park features 215 feet of waterfalls that will make you ooh and ahh. The state park not only offers remarkable views, but camping, boating, and hiking and skiing during the colder months. The trails vary in length, ranging from a quarter of a mile to a little over two miles and give you and Fido many different places to explore.Â
You can take Fido around the park with you; Fido must be on a six foot or shorter leash at all times. While hiking on the trails, you might come across a Great Horned Owl, a Common Loon, or a Northern Rough-winged Swallow. Make sure Fido does not chase any wildlife or dig any holes while you'll exploring. Also, be sure to bring plenty of doggie-poop bags with you so you can clean up immediately after Fido leaves a little something on the ground.Â
Follow the well-established rule of Leave No Trace. Also, carry a water bowl for Fido while you hike so that when you take a water break, your pup can too. Other activities offered at the park include picnicking, grilling, stand-up paddleboarding, sledding, or renting a boat. You might not be able to take Fido to all the places in the park, so it's important to check with the Park Ranger before you start a serious adventure.Â
Make sure your dog is up-to-date on his vaccinations and is healthy. State parks can be very stimulating, so make sure your dog is under your voice command and is not aggressive. You can enter the park and pay the daily $8 fee, or you can purchase an Empire Pass for $80, which allows you annual access to all New York State Parks operate by State Parks and the State Department of Environmental Conservation.
