Buffalo City sure knows how to deck out a dog park, and they did a furrific job with their very first one, The Backyard, an off-leash area in La Salle Park. Pups and their pet parents flock there to have a canine mix and mingle from dawn to dusk. There's lots of parking, and the dog park has been fashioned to be accessible for anyone with mobility problems.
At The Backyard, pups have over an acre and a half of space to play and socialize with their four-legged fur buddies. It's a safe environment, with double-gated entry points and is well-fenced. Small doggos weighing under thirty pounds have their own compound where they can scamper safely and don't need to mix with the big pups. That doesn't include fur babies who have yet to reach their four-month birthday as they've not had time to complete all the required vaccinations to be able to romp safely with other mutts.
The furtunate bigger pooches have a massive section planted with lots of mature and shady trees where they can catch some shade. The dog park grass covering can be patchy at times though, especially when the weather is hot, so pup's paws might get a little dusty. If that's worrisome for you, go prepared and take something to clean your pup's feet.
There's not a lot of amenities for pet parents, just a couple of benches and a few plastic chairs. But that shouldn't be a down point as you need to keep company with your pup while they're running around. The main necessities have been supplied. Yes, those indispensable clean up bags and trash cans. Don't forget to use them when you need to and help keep the park clean. Follow all the park rules, and you'll soon find this won't be the only dog park in Buffalo City. They'll be pawpping up everywhere.
