Description

Walnut Creek Metropolitan Park Off-Leash Area in Austin, TX is pawfect for leash-free exercise and socialization. Located within the vast 293-acres of Walnut Creek Metropolitan Park, it’s close enough to the city to enjoy a last-minute play break. Whether your pup is cavorting with pals or strolling with you along trails, they are sure to have a grreat time!

The park’s meadows, forest, and gentle hills give the impression of untouched nature, and fifteen miles of trails offer a lot of variety. The park also offers barbecues, picnic tables, a public pool, ballfields and courts, and shelters. Be sure to always bring plenty of water to avoid dehydration, and remember to leave no trace.

Often cited as a pup paradise, Walnut Creek Metro Park also boasts a huge amount of off leash space for well-behaved pups! With about 200-acres set aside for canine adventurers, your dog is sure to find something to bark about here! The off-leash area can be found north of Walnut Creek which cuts through the entire park to the top northern boundary, but there are a few exceptions. Dogs aren’t permitted at the children’s playground, the pool, or on the sports fields or courts. Everywhere else is fair game, including the trails, and even the creek! Doggos who love the water can find a pawfect spot to dip their paws in or get a full dip.

When exploring the vast off-leash area, always keep a leash handy and be sure your pooch can recall on command. There are not fences, so dogs who tend to run off should stay leashed throughout the park. Also note that bikers share several of the trails, so always be on the lookout and give them plenty of room. While there are some signs that denote the off-leash area, and others that state when dogs need to be leashed, its best to remember that whenever you travel south of the creek, dogs should always be leashed.

There’s plenty of free parking for this pawsome park, and convenient Porta-Potties provide a place for the humans to relieve themselves. Don’t furget to bring doggy poop bags and discard them in the provided waste cans, leaving nothing behind.

In spite of the off-leash area’s freedoms, there are some simple rules to follow, such as keeping females in heat and aggressive dogs at home. Any dogs exhibiting aggressive behavior should be removed. Doggos should stay leashed while walking to and from the off-leash area, and should always wear a collar with their rabies and license tags attached.

Whether it’s for a day or just an hour, the Walnut Creek Metropolitan Park Off-Leash Area is a furtastic place to take Fido for a workout in nature.

New adventures are exciting, but they can sometimes result in an injury. Before visiting Walnut Creek Metropolitan Park’s Off-Leash Area, compare pet health insurance plans to keep your fur-child in the best “pawssible” shape for your outdoor adventures!
