Wantagh Park is a puptastic waterfront park offering everything from hiking trails, swimming, and several sports courts and courses. But best of all to area pups is the furbulous dog run!
Since dogs aren't allowed in the County's parks and preserves, dog runs have become the happening place for pooches to socialize, and the Wantagh Park Dog Run is no exception. Located in the middle of the park between the administration building and the basketball courts, you can find the Dog Run by making a right at the first stop sign when entering Wantagh Park. Parking is on the right. Fully fenced and double-gated, your dog can ditch the leash in this park once inside.
The big dog section welcomes all pups, while the small dog area is just for the tinies that are 25 lbs and under. Picnic tables and chairs provide great spots for you to watch all the action. When your dog works up a thirst, there are water fountains and bowls to keep hydrated. And in the hotter summer months, the park pulls out the kiddie pools for pooches to splash in and keep cool. There isn't much shade here, just a small structure in each section, so these pools are quite pupular! With soft turf throughout the dog area, this park is easy to keep clean too. Clean-up bags are often available, but its always a good idea to bring your own.
Made with residents in mind, the dog park is free to locals. Non-residents will need to pay a $10 fee to access this pup hot spot. And since dogs are prohibited in other areas of the park, you'll need to walk from your parking spot straight to the dog park and back, on leash of course!
