Dog-friendly San Diego is upgrading its Ward Canyon Neighborhood Park to include a permanent off-leash dog park. Until its expected completion in 2024, an interim fenced park has been built at the southeast edge of the park next to the basketball court where doggos can have an unencumbered barkin’ good time socializing and working off their zoomies.Â
For now, just a small dog park is open, with a terrain of tossed wood chips that stay cool, dry easily, and ensure a soft landing. Mud isn’t a problem here! A few benches are scattered along the fence, and while and a large pergola and some trees provide shade throughout the day, it can get pretty hot at high noon. Don’t furget to bring a supply of water and a bowl to quench Fido's thirst and prevent dehydration, as the interim park doesn’t provide water. Waste bags for doggy-doo pickup are the dog parents’ responsibility as well, and cleaning up after your pup is just good manners and pup park good hygiene. Receptacles are provided.
Puppers who use the dog park must display their license and rabies tags on their collar or harness. Any dog that leaves the off-leash enclosure must be on a leash. Attendants must lock the gates at dusk, so be prepared to leave the playground at that time.
If you and your fur baby haven’t visited the Ward Canyon Dog Park yet, now is the pawrfect time to try it out to keep your woofer happy!Â
