If your pooch is itching to get out in nature, then grab the leash and head over to Washington County State Recreation Area. Sprawling across 900 acres of beautiful land, this recreation area and campground is an outdoor lover’s paradise. Your pup will go mutts over this place!
The 248-acre Washington County Lake sits smack dab in the
middle of the park. If you have your own
boat, set off from one of the boat launches and take a spin around the lake.
Boats and motorboats are also available to rent. While you’re out on the water,
cast a line and see if you can bring in a channel catfish, largemouth bass, or
crappie. Your pup wouldn’t mind a little fish dinner!
If your pup prefers a land based adventure, follow the
trail around the lake. If you hike the entire thing, it’s seven miles. Of
course, you can always walk until your doggo’s paws are tired, then turn around.
Your pooch will enjoy beautiful lakeside scenery as they hike through the trees
and wildflowers. Keep your eyes open for the little critters that call this
place home. Be sure to carry a few clean-up bags and pick up whatever your pup puts down. Also, pack some water so your doggo doesn’t
end up thirsty.
Washington County State Recreation Area is an excellent
place to stay the night. Campsites are available for both tents and trailers, so
no matter how you are traveling you will find the pawfect spot. This park also
has plenty of room for hunting. If your beloved pooch is a sporting breed, they
can be your trusty assistant as you try to bag a turkey. Check with park
management for hunting regulations and restrictions.
No bones about it, Washington County State Recreation Area
will make your dog’s tail wag!
