In 2015, Watkins Glen State Park was nominated out of 6,000 possible parks for the USA Today Readers' Choice Best State Park in the United States award and ultimately received 3rd place. Canines are welcome to join their families at this beautiful park; however, park regulations require that they remain on a lead of no greater than six feet.Â
Additionally, canine visitors are not permitted access to the Gorge Trail or pool areas. There's not a specific area designated for dog play, and there are no dog amenities provided on the premises. Owners should bring drinking water and poop bags with them to the park. It is the responsibility of all owners to clean up after their pets and properly dispose of their waste.Â
Watkins Glen State Park is a private recreational area and campground. Access to the grounds is permitted for a fee of $8 or through displaying an Empire Pass which allows entrance into all New York state parks for a period of one calendar year. Empire Passes can be purchased online or via a number of storefront locations. The cost for the pass is $80.Â
This stunning park and campground offers incredible scenery for families to enjoy. Among the varied terrain are nineteen waterfalls, winding paths, and cliffs. An Olympic-sized pool is housed on the grounds for public use. Other on-site amenities include picnic areas, barbecues, and a gift shop. Fishing, hiking, biking, hunting, and cross-country skiing are also popular activities at this vacation hotspot.Â
Campsites are available by reservation, and bathrooms are housed on the grounds for public use. Dogs making use of Watkins Glenn State Park must be up to date on all vaccinations, and owners must carry written proof of a current rabies inoculation at all times. A city dog license is also mandatory. For a great day at a beautiful New York park, plan a trip to Watkins Glen State Park!Â
