If Fifi loves to roam and hates being enclosed by a fence, then head out to the Wilmette Off-Leash Area in Illinois. Who needs a fence anyway, right? This fun and free doggy space is located West of Laramie Avenue and near the more massive West Park. Here Fifi can run around freely in the vast open fields. But this isn't your typical dog park for it doesn’t have agility equipment or a doggy fountain.
However, the Wilmette Off-Leash Area does have a welcoming space for canines to frolic. It's also a wonderful outing where dog owners and furry friends can socialize. Just remember to bring a leash for when it’s time to go home or if roaming the surrounding community parks nearby.
Managed by the Wilmette Parks District, there’s a no tolerance policy if pups wander inside the Wilmette Golf Club, public pools, city buildings, or even in Gillson Park on the fourth of July. Dog owners want to make sure to abide or face a steep fine of $75! This doggy getaway is located near the Gillson Park Dog Beach, so after Fifi runs around the fields, visitors can take their pooch to play in the sand and cool off with a swim.
Just make sure to go to the right beach because the sailing beach nearby remains off limits too. FInes are not fun. And also note that the dog beach is for dogs only, so human friends have to watch from the shore. Dog owners also need to pick up their furbaby’s doo but can use the provided bags and trash bins on the premises.
After playing fetch and running around with Fifi, dog owners might want to drive the 14 miles to the bustling City of Chicago. But until then, enjoy the views of Lake Michigan, the sandy shores, and the unfenced doggy running spaces at Wilmette Off-Leash Area in Wilmette, Illinois. Fifi will have a ball.
