If you are hiking on a trail, be sure to take bags with you and follow the carry-in, carry-out policy for dog waste. But for the dogs to run free, there are two dog runs that are separated for small dogs and large dogs and have a good distance between them. The small and large dog sections are approximately one mile apart.
At the large dog park, accessed via Sweet Hollow Road, there are plenty of trees and the ground is mostly grass and dirt, which has the potential for mud. The nearly two-acre dog run is surrounded by a fence and has two double-gated entries for safety. There are also benches for the owners to carefully watch their dogs play, water fountains for the energetic pups, bag dispensers, and garbage pails for convenient disposal.
The small dog park is located off High Hold Drive and is a grassy park that is approximately three-quarters of an acre. The park may be for small dogs, but the amenities are just as good as the large dog park. Benches, water fountains, bag dispensers, and garbage cans are readily available for visitors to use. Visitors can park in the gravel parking lot across the street on High Hold Drive.
Accessing the West Hills County Park Dog Run between Memorial Day and Labor Day is $13 to park without a Green Key and $6 with a Green Key. Green Keys are $30 for Suffolk County residents and $200 for non-residents and give you discounted access to several parks throughout the county.
