Incredibly scenic, Whetstone Gulf State Park also offers breathtaking views of the nearby Rocky Mountains. Dogs are permitted to join their families in this picturesque recreational space; however, certain conditions do apply. All canine visitors must remain on a lead of no greater than six feet at all times. In addition to this, dogs are not allowed in picnic or bathing areas. Drinking water is not provided.Â
Owners should bring some with them from home to ensure Fido has access to a cool drink when needed. Complimentary poop bags are not available on the premises. With this in mind, owners should carry some with them as the responsibility for all canine waste removal falls to them. Whetstone Gulf State Park is a public recreational area and campground, and as such, access to the grounds is fee-based.Â
The Discover Pass, which permits entrance to any New York area state park for one full calendar year, is available for purchase for $80. Campsites must be reserved in advance, and additional charges are applicable. Among the great recreational opportunities at Whetstone Gulf State Park are swimming, hiking, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, hunting, canoeing, and picnicking.Â
Situated above the gorge is the Whetstone Reservoir which offers excellent fishing. Its waters teem with tiger muskie and bass, making it a fisherman's paradise. Showers are available on the grounds for public use, so it is likely that flush toilets are also housed therein as well.Â
Whetstone Gulf State Park requires all visiting dogs to be current on their rabies vaccination. Proof of such must be furnished in the form of a veterinary certificate and a rabies tag.
