During this time, visitors may still view the gorge in all of its splendor; however, inclement weather and construction may necessitate the closure of some trails during the regular work week thus reducing access temporarily. Whirlpool State Park is divided into two sections. The street-level portion is home to many picturesque overlooks allowing breathtaking views of the on-premise whirlpool and river rapids.Â
Also situated in this area are picnic benches, a playground, and bathrooms. Just a few steps down the staircase leads to the river level where plentiful fishing and hiking opportunities abound. To return to the street area, visitors can simply climb the staircase, or they can descend to the end of the gorge to explore nearby Devil's Hole State Park.Â
Though there is no designated dog area in Whirlpool State Park, dogs are permitted to join their owners on the grounds. In accordance with New York state law, they must remain on a lead at all times. There are no on-site amenities for dogs.Â
Owners should bring bottled water and poop bags with them. Owners are responsible to provide pet waste removal services. This 109 recreational area earns high marks from visitors for its incredible beauty and serene atmosphere. They also praise its plentiful parking near to the park grounds.Â
Dogs visiting Whirlpool State Park must be current on vaccinations. As with all New York state parks, Whirlpool Park also requires all dogs to have an up to date city dog license.
