Winnekenni Castle Park

Travel back in time to old England when you and Fido visit the Winnekenni Park Conservation Area! Located in the heart of Haverhill, this 700-acre green space is known for being home to the iconic Winnekenni Castle, which was completed in 1875. While the castle is not open to canine visitors, the surrounding grounds are dog-friendly and offer nearly 10 miles of trails for you and your pup to explore!

With its miles of trails, beautiful scenery, and proximity to downtown Haverhill, Winnekenni has become a favorite recreation spot among locals and tourists alike. You'll likely bump into other people walking their dogs here, and Fido just might make some new friends before the day is over! Don't forget to check the map posted on the building near the tennis courts at the main entrance before you hit the trails. All of the paths connect to one another, allowing for various loop opportunities. Pawhaps the best way to see the entire park is to follow the Lake Loop, which goes around Kenoza Lake and The Basin for a total of 4.1 miles.

Regardless of which route you take, you and Fido will find yourselves strolling among the park's lush greenery, which includes hemlock and white pine, red oak, and American beech. Keep your eyes peeled for the many wildlife species that live in the area, such as the Canada goose, woodpecker, blue heron, and a few types of turtles. You will also see evidence of glacial movement throughout the park, as Winnekenni is a furrific example of Haverhill's distinguishable glacial drumlins. Remember to always keep your pup on a leash and clean up after them while you're enjoying the park. Have clean-up bags on hand, and water to share with your thirsty pup too!
