Bishop Peak Patricia Trailhead

Bishop Peak Patricia Trailhead is the start of a fun, dog friendly hike. Bishop Peak is the tallest peak in San Luis Obispo and offers amazing views of the city and surrounding area, making you feel like you're deep in nature--even though you can take advantage of street parking to get there!

You're going to park right on Patricia Drive. The trailhead is on the left, just off the road once Patricia Drive crosses Patricia Court. You'll follow the track uphill, through a fenced gate, and then you're on the trail properly! The fence marks the boundary of Ferrini Open Space. This county park is beautiful, and maintains the wide, dirt track that you're going to be following to the summit.

There are no restrooms, drinking fountains, or other amenities on this trail. You won't even find any benches until you reach the summit. Make sure you're ready to tackle the hike when you leave your car behind. Despite the open space, resist the temptation to let your pup off leash. You may find yourself sharing the trail with cyclists or equestrians. Keeping your dog on leash will keep everyone safe. You're also going to need to pack enough water to keep you and your pup hydrated on the long hike! 

Once you're through the fence into Ferrini Open Space, you're going to be climbing steadily. The trail eases the steepness by going through a series of switchbacks. The oak forest around the trail provides some shade, and a beautiful backdrop as you climb. About half a mile from the summit, you're going to leave the trees behind. There's a seasonal pond near the summit that's great for viewing, but not safe for wading or drinking. Keep going and you'll reach the summit! A bench marks a great place to take a rest, and the top of the trail.
