Description

Now is the time to pack up the pup and head to the hills! There is a great hiking adventure waiting for you in the San Luis Obispo area of California at Johnson Ranch Open Space.

You can easily pick up the trailhead off Highway 101 near Pismo Beach. The ranch offers 242-acres of land where this 2 ¾-mile trail meanders through. The trail is rated as moderate, so most pups will be able to enjoy this trek without too much struggle.  Offering many breaks to a newbie pup hiker will allow any pup to have a lot of fun.

Hiking through this open space offers expansive views of the area. You will be hiking on a natural soil footing through grassy hills and meandering around rock outcroppings. The noise of the city is quickly left behind for you to experience the peace and tranquility this remote area. Visiting this former working cattle ranch in spring will treat you to wildflowers right alongside the trail. The rainy season only helps this spot green up and boasts picturesque landscapes. A selfie with your pup is a must-do!  The loop offers a short cut to the other side of the loop making your overall hike much shorter, if you would like to spend less time here on any particular day.

You can hike this trail at any time during the year as it is maintained well throughout each season. Pups need to be kept on leash for everyone’s safety and pleasure.  Runners are encouraged to use this trail as well, so be sure to share the path. Pack plenty of water as there is no running water or restroom facilities associated with this trail.

The Johnson Ranch Open Space is your ticket to a lovely hike in the San Luis Obispo area. Check it out today!
