Description

The Rivergreenway Trail is a furrific way to explore northeastern Indiana with your four-legged buddy! Spanning 25 miles, this linear park originates at the confluence of the St. Joseph, St. Marys, and Maumee Rivers in Fort Wayne, then branches out in three directions to follow each one. You and Fido may begin your adventure at one of the many parks along the trail, including Johnny Appleseed, Lawton, Foster, Bloomingdale, and Kreager. If you're starting out from New Haven, then Moser Park is your best option.

The Rivergreenway's St. Joseph Pathway, which is 3 miles long, winds along the bank of the St. Joseph River and leads to Johnny Appleseed Park. Here you'll find drinking fountains and portable toilets, as well as a members-only dog park where Fido can meet new friends and play off-leash. There's also an additional mile of trail on top of the floodwall along the east side of the river where pawsome views of downtown Fort Wayne can be seen.

Following the 9-mile St. Marys Pathway gives you and your pup access to many of the city's parks, including Headwaters, Foster, and Tillman. You'll also find the Historic Old Fort, a reconstruction of a 19th century, all-wooden military fort, along this route. Not far from the Old Fort, you'll spot a series of six murals completed by local kids. To travel from Fort Wayne to New Haven, take the Maumee Pathway, which stretches 9 miles between the two cities. If you're using the trail at night, note that the New Haven section closes earlier at 10 PM.

Make sure your furry companion stays leashed at all times and clean up any waste immediately! Human restrooms and drinking fountains are available at several of the parks along or near the trail from May to the middle of October. With much of it weaving behind large plots of land, the Rivergreenway offers a safe and serene alternate route for you and your pooch to explore Fort Wayne and New Haven. Enjoy a stroll in nature without having to leave the city on the Rivergreenway Trail!

Cautions & Considerations

Some sections may be exposed, so wear sunscreen and a hat. Consider going in the early morning or evening when the sun isn't as harsh to avoid hot paws. Be sure to bring your own water if you're hitting the trail from the middle of October to April.
